How does influencer marketing work with fashion brands?

The goal of influencers in the fashion industry revolves around introducing followers to a new product, apparel, footwear, and other similar types of products. Popular fashion bloggers, social media influencers and celebrities partner with fashion brands to promote campaigns, grow brand recognition, showcase styles or “how to” wear products and ultimate drive sales and increase revenue for that brand.

What do fashion influencers do?

The best and most successful social influencers spend their time building a relationships and creating an audience on their platform of choice. Platform may include YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter or Facebook. Influencers build their audience by providing high quality, engaging and relevant content their audience is interested in.

Do fashion influencers get paid?

When working directly with brands and promoting partner products, most influencers prefer to receive some type of compensation. The amount of time required to product a professional content, photoshoot or video is a time consuming and it is in the best interest of of the brand to offer some type of compensation. The payment can be in the form of monetary compensation with a specific dollar amount or it can be in the form of product gifting. Another alternative is the hybrid compensation model in which the brand gifts the product and pays a lower monetary compensation. When starting out, most influencers with followings under 10,000 can negotiate a hybrid working relationship with the brands and evolve to a higher compensation rate based on their experience.

How much do fashion bloggers and influencers make?

Rate cards vary greatly from influencer to influencer. The compensation takes into account the influencer’s reach, engagement, brand and past performance history. An influencer just starting out can expect to be compensated with gifted product whereas an established influencer with over 10,000 followers can expect to receive approximately $100 to $1,000 per promotion.

How do I choose the right influencer to promote my brand?

This is a great question. One of the best way to choose the right fashion influencer, after you have identified a few people as good brand ambassadors for your brand, is to review their historical audience growth and engagement over time. This ensures their audience is organic rather than paid (fake), and you will achieve your desired business outcome. However, if you cannot gain access to their historical data, the next best step is to chat with other brands they’ve worked with. Did they achieve the results they promised? Finally, some simple and quick metrics you can review are followers, engagement, reach and quality of their content - writing, photos and videos.
